ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how nonsurgical treatment for gum disease, known as periodontitis, affects certain markers in the body related to inflammation and oxidative stress. Periodontitis is a serious gum condition that can lead to tooth loss and is linked to other health issues like diabetes and heart disease. Researchers are particularly interested in a substance called apelin, which may help indicate the presence of periodontitis and how the body responds to treatment. By measuring levels of apelin and other related markers in the saliva and blood before and after treatment, the study aims to better understand the relationship between gum health and overall body health.

To participate in this study, individuals need to be between 65 and 74 years old, have at least 20 teeth, and have been diagnosed with periodontitis. They should also be generally healthy, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and not have had any recent periodontal treatment or used certain medications. Participants can expect to undergo nonsurgical treatment for their gum disease and will have their apelin levels and other health markers monitored during the study. This research could provide valuable insights into how to effectively diagnose and treat gum disease in the future.
