ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how certain dietary changes can affect specific functions in healthy individuals, particularly how short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) might influence heart and breathing responses. SCFAs are substances produced by the gut when we digest certain types of fiber. The researchers want to see if changing the diet can increase the levels of these fatty acids in the body and how this might change the way our heart and lungs respond to different situations.
To participate, you need to be between 18 and 40 years old and generally healthy—meaning you shouldn't have chronic health issues like heart or digestive diseases. Throughout the study, participants will go through three different four-week diets, where they will consume either raw potato starch, a direct source of SCFAs, or a placebo that does not contain active ingredients. During the study, the researchers will measure levels of SCFAs in your body and assess how well your heart and lungs are functioning. It's important to note that those who have recently used certain medications, smoked, or have specific health conditions may not be eligible for this trial.
