ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how deep breathing exercises and using a device called incentive spirometry can help improve oxygen levels in patients who have suffered rib fractures from chest injuries. Rib fractures can happen in accidents, and they can lead to serious complications, particularly affecting the lungs. The main goal of this study is to see if these exercises can help patients breathe better and avoid problems like atelectasis, which is when parts of the lung collapse and make it hard to breathe.
To be eligible for the trial, participants need to have rib fractures from a chest injury and be between the ages of 65 and 74 or 29 and 219. However, patients who are unconscious, have a history of severe lung diseases like COPD or asthma, have a high injury severity score, or need help breathing with a machine are not able to participate. Those who join the study can expect to learn and practice specific breathing techniques to assist their recovery, and their progress will be monitored to see how effective these methods are in improving their oxygenation.
