ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different surgical techniques to improve speech development in young children with a condition called cleft palate. The trial will involve about 20 children aged between 3 to 5 years who have previously had surgery to repair their cleft lip and palate. The children will be divided into two groups: one group will receive a specific type of surgery called Furlow palatoplasty with a buccal myomucosal flap, while the other group will undergo a different technique known as two-flap palatoplasty.
All participants will have their speech recorded in a soundproof room by a speech expert. They will say repeated sounds, simple sentences, and count from 1 to 10. This will help the researchers evaluate how well the children can speak and whether they have any difficulties with their speech. To be eligible for the trial, children must be between 3 and 5 years old, have had their cleft lip and palate repaired by the same surgeon, and not have any other related health issues. Unfortunately, children with certain conditions, like syndromic clefts or heart problems, will not be able to participate. This study aims to understand which surgical method might lead to better speech results for children with cleft palate.
