ClinConnect Summary
This study is an observational, qualitative project from Malmö University that looks at dentists’ experiences when treating young children who have extensive dental needs, mainly severe tooth decay. Researchers will conduct in-depth interviews with dentists to understand their feelings, stress, and how they think about care decisions, including when and how they might report concerns to social services. The goal is to identify common themes and develop new ideas or theories about how dentists handle these challenging situations. About 30 dentists are expected to participate, and data collection will take place over about 12 months.
Who can take part? Dentists who treat children—general dentists or pediatric specialists, or those training to become specialists—up to 65 years old. Participation involves roughly one hour of an interview, which can be done in person, online, or by phone. The study does not involve providing medical care or drugs, and information from individuals will not be shared outside the research team. The project is led by Malmö University (NCT06863103) and involves interviews conducted at the Faculty of Odontology in Malmö; recruitment is by invitation, with an estimated completion date of May 31, 2026.
