ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring how Tai Chi and relaxation techniques can help teenagers aged 12 to 19 who experience chronic somatoform disorders. These disorders involve physical symptoms, like pain or headaches, that don't have a clear medical cause. Many adolescents with these issues often visit doctors frequently, miss school, and struggle with their relationships. The hope is that practicing Tai Chi, a gentle movement and meditation practice, will reduce their symptoms, pain, and anxiety, while improving their overall well-being and quality of life.
To participate in the study, teens must be between 12 and 19 years old and have unexplained physical complaints. They should be able to understand instructions and be physically capable of doing Tai Chi. The trial will last five weeks, during which participants will attend Tai Chi sessions, and researchers will track changes in their symptoms, pain levels, and quality of life. This study aims to provide new, non-medical ways to support adolescents facing these challenging disorders, and it will take place at the Trousseau Hospital's adolescent medicine unit.
