ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking into whether firefighters, who are often exposed to harmful substances while on the job, have a higher risk of developing certain pre-cancerous blood conditions. These conditions can lead to serious blood cancers like leukemia or multiple myeloma. The study aims to understand if the work environment and exposure to hazardous materials contribute to these health issues over time.
To participate in the trial, individuals need to be between the ages of 40 and 49, currently employed by the Charlotte Fire Department with at least five years of experience, and able to follow the study's procedures. Participants will need to give their consent to share their health information and will be monitored throughout the study. It's important to note that anyone currently diagnosed with a blood cancer will not be eligible to join. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it represents a significant effort to investigate the health risks faced by firefighters.
