ClinConnect Summary
The Optimizing Nutrition and Milk (Opti-NuM) Project is a clinical trial focused on understanding how to provide the best nutrition for very low birth weight babies. These infants need special care when it comes to their feeding, as their early nutrition plays a crucial role in their growth, brain development, and overall health. The trial aims to determine how different components of human milk—such as vitamins and beneficial substances that shape the gut bacteria—can be tailored to meet the unique needs of each baby. Researchers will also look at how factors like the baby’s genetics and the parents' health and diet might affect these nutritional needs.
The trial is currently recruiting participants, including infants aged 0 to 21 who are part of specific earlier studies. To be eligible, babies must have been enrolled in the MaxiMoM Platform's previous trials. Participants in this study can expect to contribute data that will help researchers better understand how to optimize human milk feeding for vulnerable infants, ultimately aiming to improve their growth and development outcomes.
