ClinConnect Summary

This study tests whether two mouthwashes—chlorhexidine (CHX) and green tea—can help people with gingivitis, a common gum inflammation. In about 84 adults aged 18–40 with at least 20 natural teeth, researchers will collect gum health measures and a saliva sample to look at immune cells (neutrophils) and overall antioxidant levels, plus a simple plaque check, before and after about three months. Participants are randomly assigned to CHX mouthwash or a Green Tea mouthwash and neither participants nor researchers know which one is being used (double-blind). People with certain health conditions, recent antibiotic or periodontal treatment, tobacco use, pregnancy, or other factors are not eligible.

All participants undergo a dental cleaning (scaling and root planing) and receive oral hygiene guidance. Then they use the assigned mouthwash twice daily for about two months. Researchers will reassess gum health, collect a second saliva sample, and compare the results between the two groups. The trial is currently enrolling, with completion expected around early to mid-2025, and results are not yet available.
