ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking to understand how a specific protein called neurofilament light chain, found in the blood, relates to the severity of symptoms and cognitive decline in people with mood disorders like major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder. Researchers want to see if measuring this protein can help detect these mood disorders earlier and provide insights into how they progress over time.
To take part in the study, participants need to be between 15 and 50 years old and meet certain criteria for having a major depressive episode or a manic episode of bipolar disorder. Healthy individuals of the same age and gender without any major health issues will also be included as a control group. Those who have significant medical conditions, a history of serious head injuries, or substance abuse problems will not be eligible. Participants can expect to undergo assessments to measure their symptoms and cognitive abilities, helping researchers learn more about the relationship between these factors and the neurofilament light chain. This could ultimately lead to better ways to diagnose and treat mood disorders in the future.
