ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how a concept called "elastic power" relates to lung conditions in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is a serious condition that makes it difficult to breathe, and while mechanical ventilation helps these patients, it can sometimes cause additional lung injury. The researchers want to see how elastic power connects to issues like lung overinflation and how it compares to other measurements that doctors use to assess lung health during treatment.
To participate in the trial, patients must be adults aged 18 or older and diagnosed with moderate to severe ARDS. Certain patients, such as those with severe lung conditions or unstable health situations, will not be eligible. This trial is currently not recruiting participants yet, but once it starts, those who qualify can expect to undergo evaluations that will help researchers understand the role of elastic power in their lung health and treatment.

Eligibility criteria
- • Inclusion Criteria: Adult patients (≥18 years) with moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), as defined by the Berlin criteria, were prospectively and consecutively included.
- • -
- Exclusion Criteria: Patients were excluded if they met at least one of the following criteria:
- • History of emphysema, asthma, or pneumothorax.
- • Severe instability at the time of the study preventing the PEEP titration maneuver, defined by at least one of the following indicators: SaO₂ ≤ 90%, shock requiring \>0.5 γ/kg/min of norepinephrine, complex arrhythmia, myocardial ischemia, or intracranial hypertension refractory to initial treatment.
- • Patients with do-not-resuscitate orders and pregnant women.
