ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how low iron levels in pregnant women, known as iron deficiency, can affect both the mother's health and the health of her child. The researchers want to understand if taking iron supplements during pregnancy can improve outcomes for both mothers and their babies. They will be looking at 6,000 mothers and their children over several years to see how their health develops, including growth and any medical needs.
To participate, women must be pregnant and able to read and write in Finnish, Swedish, or English. If they choose to join, they will fill out a questionnaire about their health and any iron supplements they may be taking. The study will also track the child's health from birth to age seven, checking things like growth, behavior, and skills. Additionally, some mothers with specific health conditions, like diabetes, will be part of smaller groups within the study to see how these conditions relate to iron levels. Overall, this research aims to help improve the health of mothers and their children by understanding the role of iron during pregnancy.
