ClinConnect Summary
This study looks at two ways to place an artificial tooth root (implant) right after removing a front upper tooth in people with thin bone in that area. It compares the socket shield technique (keeping a small piece of the tooth root in place to help preserve the surrounding bone) with the conventional immediate implant method (no socket shield). It’s a randomized trial, meaning people are assigned by chance to one of the two methods, and neither the participants nor the people measuring the outcomes know which treatment was given. The study will include about 20 adults (roughly 10 in each group) at Tanta University in Egypt, and results are not yet available.
Participants will undergo teeth extraction with immediate implant placement. In the socket shield group, a portion of the tooth root is kept on the facial side to protect the front bone, then an implant is placed palatal to this shield. In the control group, a standard immediate implant is placed without keeping any root fragment. The main things doctors will measure after about 6 months are the thickness of the labial bone in front of the implant and how much bone loss occurs around the implant. They will also look at bone density around the implant, how stable the implant is, and whether the implant is considered successful (no infection, no fistula, and no mobility). If you’re considering participation, you’d be expected to follow up for about 6 months with imaging and stability checks as part of the study.
