ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the use of a medication called lidocaine, which is injected under the skin, to help relieve pain from a condition known as herpes zoster, or shingles. Specifically, the researchers want to see if this treatment can not only reduce pain for people with acute shingles but also help prevent long-term pain that can occur after the shingles rash has healed, a condition called post-herpetic neuralgia.
To participate in this study, individuals need to be over 18 years old and experiencing pain from shingles that started within the last 30 days or pain that has lasted more than three months after the rash. However, some people won't be able to join, such as those on blood thinners, people with certain medical conditions, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Participants will receive the lidocaine injection and will be monitored to see how well it works for their pain. The trial is not yet recruiting, so those interested should keep an eye out for when it begins.
