ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding how to best manage asymptomatic carotid stenosis, which is a narrowing of the carotid arteries that usually doesn’t cause any noticeable symptoms. The trial aims to evaluate the results of two common treatments—carotid endarterectomy (a surgical procedure to remove the blockage) and stenting (inserting a small mesh tube to keep the artery open)—in patients with significant narrowing of their carotid arteries. These treatments are particularly relevant for older adults, especially those over 75, as there is still some debate about their effectiveness for patients who do not show any symptoms.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to have asymptomatic carotid stenosis with a blockage of more than 80%, confirmed by ultrasound tests. They should not have experienced any recent symptoms related to the carotid artery narrowing. If you or a loved one qualifies, you can expect to undergo evaluations to determine the best course of action for treatment. The trial is currently recruiting participants and aims to gather valuable information that could help guide future treatment options for patients with this condition.
