ClinConnect Summary
The Triaxial Accelerometry Study is looking into how physical activity levels change over time for people who have had hip replacement surgeries, specifically total hip arthroplasty (THA) and hip resurfacing. These surgeries are designed to relieve pain and improve movement for those suffering from arthritis. However, the long-term impact of these surgeries on how active patients remain is still not fully understood. To find out more, researchers will follow up with patients who had these surgeries about 15 years ago. Participants will wear two small devices that track their activity—one on their wrist for 10 days and another on their thigh for 48 hours. They will also fill out short questionnaires about their physical activity.
To be eligible for this study, participants must have previously taken part in a clinical trial at Rijnstate hospital between 2007 and 2008. There are no specific exclusions, so most individuals who meet this criterion are welcome to participate. This research aims to compare activity levels between the two types of hip surgeries, helping doctors better understand how these procedures affect long-term mobility and overall health. Participation is completely voluntary, and all personal information will be kept confidential.
