Hip Fracture Cervical Myelopathy

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at patients who have hip fractures from falling at ground level, to see if they also have a condition called cervical myelopathy. Cervical myelopathy is a problem with the spinal cord in the neck that can lead to weakness, numbness, and other issues. Identifying and treating this condition can help prevent future falls and additional fractures. The study will involve screening hip fracture patients at certain hospitals, starting with a discussion about their medical history and a physical exam, followed by an MRI if needed.

To participate in this trial, individuals must be admitted to Eskenazi, Methodist, or IU North hospitals for a hip fracture caused by a fall from standing height. However, those who have other neurological or cognitive disorders, like dementia or Parkinson's disease, that could explain their fall will not be included. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but once it begins, eligible individuals will have the opportunity to receive thorough screening for cervical myelopathy, which could help improve their overall health and reduce the risk of future falls.
