ClinConnect Summary
The "Conscious Pregnancy" trial is a study aimed at helping pregnant women improve their health through mindfulness practices. Specifically, it focuses on low-income Spanish-speaking Latina women who are pregnant and in their first or second trimester. Researchers want to see if mindfulness techniques can positively affect factors related to heart and metabolic health, like blood sugar levels and inflammation in the body. The study will involve 60 participants, with half receiving mindfulness training and the other half on a waiting list for the training.
To be eligible for this study, women must be pregnant with one baby, speak Spanish, identify as Hispanic or Latino, and meet low-income criteria. However, those who already practice mindfulness regularly or have certain diabetes diagnoses will not be included. Participants can expect to learn mindfulness techniques and may help contribute to important research that could benefit future pregnant women. The study is being conducted in collaboration with a community organization called MOMS, which supports low-income pregnant and postpartum women.
