ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring the effects of kefir mouthwash on improving oral health, particularly for people with moderate gingivitis, bad breath (halitosis), and other oral health issues. Over a period of 28 days, participants will use the kefir mouthwash and have their gum health, plaque levels, and overall oral hygiene checked at the start, 14 days, and at the end of the study. The researchers will compare the results from the kefir mouthwash with a standard mouthwash containing chlorhexidine, which is commonly used for oral care.
To participate in the trial, individuals need to be between 18 and 28 years old and generally healthy, without any chronic illnesses or recent antibiotic use. Those who have had certain dental treatments or have habits like smoking that could affect their oral health will not be eligible. Participants can expect to follow a specific regimen using the mouthwash while attending regular check-ups to see how their oral health improves over the study period. This research aims to provide evidence for using kefir, a natural probiotic, as a mouthwash option, which may be gentler on the mouth compared to chemical alternatives.
