ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring a new technique for cochlear implants, which are devices that help people with significant hearing loss. Typically, cochlear implants use electrodes that can only stimulate part of the cochlea, the spiral-shaped part of the inner ear responsible for hearing. This trial is testing a method that allows stimulation along the entire cochlea without making the electrode longer. The goal is to see if this new approach can improve how well people understand speech and the overall quality of sounds.
To participate in this study, individuals must be between the ages of 65 and 87 and have already been evaluated as suitable for a cochlear implant at the NYU cochlear implant center. They need to have a moderate to profound hearing loss in the ear that will receive the implant and must choose a device made by a specific company, Cochlear Limited. Participants can expect to contribute to research that could enhance cochlear implant technology and benefit future users. It's important to note that individuals under 18, those with very long-term hearing loss, or those who are pregnant cannot take part in this trial.
