ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying the use of activated charcoal to help manage high phosphorus levels in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who are on dialysis. High phosphorus levels can lead to serious health problems, including issues with blood vessels and bones. Currently, patients often limit phosphorus in their diet and take medications called phosphate binders to control these levels. However, the trial is exploring whether activated charcoal, which is generally safe and has fewer side effects, could be a better option.

To participate, you need to be an adult at least 18 years old with ESRD who has been on stable hemodialysis for at least six months and is currently taking phosphate binders. If you are severely malnourished or have certain other health conditions, you may not be eligible. Participants in this trial can expect to receive the activated charcoal treatment and be monitored for its effects on their phosphorus levels. This trial is an exciting opportunity to explore a new approach to managing high phosphorus in dialysis patients.
