ClinConnect Summary
This study, called TiNeCoM, is checking whether using a U-shaped travel neck pillow right after thyroid surgery helps people feel more comfortable in their neck, have less neck pain and stiffness, and move their neck more easily. It compares two groups: one uses the pillow for the first 24 hours after surgery while resting, and the other gets standard post-surgery care with no pillow. After 24 hours, researchers will assess comfort, pain, and neck movement in both groups.
Eligible participants are adults 18 and older who are having elective total thyroidectomy (no prior thyroid surgery and no known problems in the neck spine), and who are able to give informed consent. The study is taking place at Erciyes University in Kayseri, Turkey, and is currently enrolling about 110 people. Participants will complete simple questionnaires about pain and comfort and have their neck movement measured by a clinician, with assessments done around baseline and about 24 hours after surgery. This is a non-drug, non-FDA-regulated study, and results are not yet available.
