ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can improve the way we analyze MRI scans for certain muscle diseases, specifically Becker Muscular Dystrophy, Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD), and Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis. These diseases cause muscle tissue to be gradually replaced with fat, which can be seen on MRI scans. The goal of the study is to develop an AI model that can quickly and accurately measure fat in the muscles, making it easier for doctors to track how these diseases progress and assess treatments. Currently, analyzing these scans is a slow process because it requires manual work to outline each muscle, but the AI aims to make this faster and more efficient.

To be part of this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old and have a confirmed genetic diagnosis of one of the neuromuscular diseases being studied. Unfortunately, those who cannot undergo an MRI or have other muscle disorders that could interfere with the results will not be eligible. Since the trial is still in the early stages and not yet recruiting, participants can expect to share their past MRI scans for the AI model to learn from. This research could lead to significant improvements in how we understand and treat these muscle diseases in the future.

Eligibility criteria

  • Inclusion Criteria:
  • Genetically verified diagnosis of neuromuscular diseases.
  • Age above 18 years
  • Exclusion Criteria:
  • Contraindications to perform an MRI
  • Competing disorders and other muscle disorders, which may alter measurements. The investigator will decide whether the competing disorder can significantly influence the results
