ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how effective a method called Screening and Brief Intervention (SBI) is at helping people reduce unhealthy alcohol use among outpatients in Tigray who have been affected by conflict. The researchers will screen about 1,260 outpatients, looking for those who score between 8 and 19 on a specific alcohol questionnaire. Those who fit this score range will be divided into two groups: one group will receive helpful advice and counseling about their alcohol use, while the other group will only have follow-up screenings without any additional support. The researchers will check in with participants at 6 and 12 months to see how their alcohol consumption has changed.
To be eligible for this trial, participants need to be at least 18 years old and have no serious medical or mental health issues. The trial is open to all genders, but individuals who score below 7 or above 20 on the alcohol questionnaire will not be included. This study is important because it aims to find effective ways to help people who may be struggling with alcohol use in a community that has faced significant challenges.
