ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is designed to find out which of two different antibiotic treatments is better at preventing infections after emergency surgery for trauma. The study will compare a single antibiotic called ertapenem with a combination of two antibiotics: cefazolin and metronidazole. Researchers want to see how effective these treatments are in preventing serious infections that can occur in the body after surgery. They will also test a tool that helps predict a patient's risk of developing these infections based on specific information.
To participate in this trial, you need to be an adult who has undergone emergency surgery for trauma within 90 minutes of arriving at the hospital. Unfortunately, individuals who have allergies to certain antibiotics, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are in prison cannot take part in the study. If you join, you will receive one of the antibiotic treatments as part of your routine care, and your health will be monitored closely to see how well the treatment works in preventing infections.
