ClinConnect Summary
The Pulse Study is a clinical trial that is looking at how safe and effective it is to give blood pressure-raising medications, known as vasopressors, through a small vein in the arm or hand. Typically, these medications are given through a larger tube placed in a central vein, which can be complicated and carry risks. This study aims to see if using a smaller tube, called a peripheral venous catheter, is a safer option for patients who are critically ill and experiencing shock, a dangerous condition where blood pressure drops too low. Researchers want to find out if a specific method for using these peripheral vasopressors can help more patients receive treatment quickly and safely.
To participate in the study, individuals must be at least 18 years old and not already have a central line, which is the larger tube. They should also be experiencing shock that requires treatment with certain doses of vasopressors. However, those who need urgent dialysis or are pregnant cannot join the study. Participants will be closely monitored to ensure their safety and to gather information on how well this method works. The findings could help develop better treatment guidelines for using peripheral vasopressors in the future.
