ClinConnect Summary
The OESOCAL study is investigating how energy use in the body changes during and after a major surgery called oesophagectomy, which is used to remove part of the esophagus. This surgery can be risky, especially for patients who might be malnourished. The goal is to find the best way to provide nutritional support to patients during their recovery, using a method called indirect calorimetry that measures how much energy their body is using. This is important because getting the right amount of nutrition can help prevent complications after surgery.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be adults scheduled for the oesophagectomy surgery, and they need to be part of a social protection program. They should also be willing to read the information about the study and agree to participate. Participants will stay in an intensive care unit after surgery, where their nutritional needs will be closely monitored. It’s important to note that some patients may not be able to join the study if they have certain medical conditions or are undergoing other treatments that could affect their nutrition or surgery.
