ClinConnect Summary
This study is exploring how well obstetrics residents and specialists learn and keep up skills for three delivery tools (Odòn, Kiwi vacuum, and Simpson forceps) by practicing on birth mannequins. It’s being conducted in Italy at the University of Chieti and Santo Spirito Hospital in Pescara. About 30 doctors, aged roughly 24 to 70 and working in labor wards, are expected to take part. The study focuses on training methods and does not involve testing a new drug or testing on patients.
If you participate, you’ll start with a formal lecture and then practice with the mannequins for each device. Skills will be tested right away, then re-tested at 1 month and 2 months. You’ll fill out questionnaires before training and after each session to share your experience and confidence, and the training videos will be recorded in a way that protects identity and reviewed by three senior specialists. The main goal is to measure how quickly skills are learned (the learning curve) and how well they’re retained over time, with some additional questions about your training level and approach to using the devices. The study is enrolling by invitation and aims to enroll about 30 participants, with completion expected around July 2025.
