ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called PvSTATEM, is studying a new way to test for and treat a type of malaria caused by the Plasmodium vivax parasite. One of the challenges with this type of malaria is that it can go into a dormant state in the liver, which means people can get sick again weeks or months after their initial infection. The trial aims to find out if a special blood test that measures antibodies (proteins that the body makes in response to an infection) can help identify people who are at risk of future malaria attacks. If the test shows recent infection, participants will receive a treatment that helps eliminate these dormant parasites.
To take part in this study, participants need to be at least 12 months old and plan to stay in the study area for at least a month. The trial will not begin recruiting participants just yet, but when it does, participants can expect to have their blood tested for signs of recent malaria infection, followed by a treatment if needed. This study is important because it could help improve how we manage and prevent malaria, particularly in Madagascar and Ethiopia, where this type of malaria is common.
