ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is exploring whether using technology like Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) headsets can help reduce anxiety and pain in children undergoing minor medical procedures, such as lumbar punctures and cardiac catheterizations. The goal is to see if these fun, distracting devices are more effective than the usual standard of care, which does not involve any technology. Researchers will measure how well these devices work by looking at things like how much medication is needed, how satisfied doctors are, and how long it takes for patients to recover and leave the hospital.

To participate in this study, children must be between the ages of 4 and 17 and be able to speak English. They will also need permission from a parent or guardian. Unfortunately, some children won’t be able to join if they have certain health conditions, like severe motion sickness or active infections, or if they prefer to be put under general anesthesia during the procedure. If your child is selected for the trial, they can expect to try out the VR or AR devices while receiving their care, and the results will help improve experiences for future young patients.
