ClinConnect Summary

The Human Genes and Microbiota in Early Life (HuGME) trial is looking at how the bacteria and other microbes in a pregnant woman's body can affect both her health and her baby's health, both during pregnancy and later in life. Researchers want to understand how these microbes interact with the mother and child, and how this might influence conditions like obesity, diabetes, and neurodevelopmental disorders. By studying these relationships, the trial hopes to find ways to predict and prevent health issues that might arise as the child grows.

If you are a pregnant woman who is less than 20 weeks along and planning to deliver at the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, you may be eligible to participate. The study requires that you plan to live in Guangzhou with your child for at least three years. As a participant, you would need to allow researchers to collect and store some blood and stool samples to study the microbiota. This research could help improve our understanding of how early life factors influence health outcomes, potentially leading to better prevention strategies for diseases in the future.
