ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring how listening to music might help reduce anxiety and depression in patients before they undergo surgical or other medical procedures. Researchers believe that heart rate variability (HRV)—a measure of how well your heart responds to stress—could be linked to feelings of anxiety and depression. By studying 120 patients at three hospitals in Singapore, the team aims to see if listening to music can improve HRV and overall mood before medical procedures.
To be eligible for this study, participants should be adults aged between 18 and 70 who are scheduled for certain procedures and can understand English or Chinese. Important criteria include not being on opioids before the procedure and having no chronic pain. If you join the study, you will have your heart activity monitored before, during, and after listening to music, and will also answer some questions about your mood and background. This research could help identify ways to make patients feel calmer and more at ease before their medical procedures.
