Dysphagia Cerebrovascular Accident Oral Nutritional Supplements

ClinConnect Summary

The Cooling Sensation Safe Deglution Study is looking at a new type of nutritional supplement to help patients who have difficulty swallowing (a condition known as dysphagia) after having a stroke. Dysphagia can lead to serious problems like malnutrition and respiratory infections, making recovery harder. This study will use thickened, flavored nutritional drinks like mango-mint and lemon-mint to see if they help improve swallowing safety and make it easier for patients to enjoy their food. Previous research suggests that flavors and cold sensations can stimulate nerves in the throat to help with swallowing.

To participate in this study, you need to be an adult over 18 years old, currently hospitalized for a stroke, and diagnosed with dysphagia. You should also be at risk of malnutrition and able to understand and answer questions related to the study. If you join, you'll be asked to try these new flavored supplements and share your experiences. This study is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to find effective ways to enhance swallowing safety for stroke survivors.
