ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of Nordic walking on balance and strength in children with Down syndrome. Down syndrome is a genetic condition that can affect a child's physical and mental development. The trial will involve 32 children aged 8 to 13, who will be divided into two groups. One group will participate in a regular exercise program, while the other group will engage in Nordic walking, which is a type of walking that uses special poles. Both groups will meet for 30 minutes, five times a week, over six weeks.
To be eligible for the trial, children must be able to walk independently for at least 60 meters and should have balance difficulties as indicated by specific tests. However, children with uncontrolled seizures, certain orthopedic conditions, or visual impairments will not be able to participate. Throughout the study, researchers will evaluate the children's balance and strength using simple tests to see how effective Nordic walking is compared to traditional exercise. This trial is a great opportunity for children with Down syndrome to improve their physical abilities while participating in a fun and engaging activity!
