ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how educational programs can help patients on hemodialysis better care for their arteriovenous fistula (AVF), which is an important access point for their treatment. The goal is to see if learning specific self-care skills can improve both how well patients take care of their AVF and their overall quality of life. The study will involve 274 participants who are at least 18 years old, can read and understand Urdu, and are currently receiving hemodialysis through an AVF. Patients with physical or mental disabilities that affect their daily activities, or those with visual or hearing impairments, will not be included.

Participants will be randomly divided into two groups: one group will receive standard care, while the other group will attend two educational sessions—one focused on the theory behind AVF care and the other on practical skills. Researchers will assess how well participants are managing their AVF care and how this affects their quality of life at the start of the study, right after the education sessions, and again two and six weeks later. This trial aims to empower patients with the knowledge and skills they need to improve their health and well-being during their hemodialysis treatment.
