ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether heart rate variability (HRV) can help predict postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in women who are having elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy (a type of surgery to remove the gallbladder). PONV is a common issue after surgery and can make recovery uncomfortable. The researchers want to see if measuring HRV before and after the surgery can provide useful information about how likely a patient is to experience PONV.
To participate in this study, women aged 18 to 65 who are scheduled for this surgery and are non-smokers may be eligible. Participants will have their heart rate monitored before and shortly after the surgery using a special chest strap. The study will follow a standardized approach to anesthesia and medication, and the severity of any nausea and vomiting will be assessed during the first 24 hours after the surgery. This could help doctors better understand who is at risk for PONV and improve patient care.
