ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of two medications, intravenous lidocaine and intratracheal dexmedetomidine, on reducing sore throat after thyroid cancer surgery. The researchers want to see if using these medications together can help patients feel more comfortable after their surgery compared to using them separately or not at all. The trial will involve 144 patients aged 18 to 65 years who are scheduled for this type of surgery and are in good health (specifically, those with ASA physical status I and II).
If you are eligible to participate, you will be randomly placed into one of four groups, where you may receive either lidocaine, dexmedetomidine, a combination of both, or a placebo (a harmless solution). Your sore throat will be assessed at different times after the surgery to see how well the treatments work. It’s important to know that patients with certain health conditions, such as severe heart or lung diseases, or those who are pregnant or have mental health issues, cannot participate in this trial. Overall, this study aims to improve postoperative comfort for patients undergoing thyroid surgery.
