ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying the effects of two different types of anesthesia used during a surgery called pancreatoduodenectomy, which is performed to remove tumors from the pancreas. The goal is to see whether general anesthesia alone or a combination of general anesthesia with an epidural (a type of pain relief) is better at preventing low blood pressure during surgery. Researchers will also look at other important factors, like how many patients need extra medication to support their blood pressure, if they require blood transfusions, and their recovery experiences in the hospital.

To participate in this trial, patients need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and have consented to join. They must be scheduled for this specific surgery at a certain hospital and not have any medical conditions that would prevent them from safely receiving the epidural anesthesia. Participants can expect to be randomly assigned to one of the two anesthesia groups and will be monitored closely throughout their surgery to track their blood pressure and other health outcomes. This research aims to improve patient safety and care during a significant surgical procedure.
