ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying whether a specific type of injection, called a trigger point injection, can help reduce pain and the need for pain medication after a total knee replacement surgery. The goal is to see if this injection can be more effective than a sham injection, which is a fake injection that doesn’t actually deliver any medication. This research is important because it aims to find ways to manage pain after surgery without relying on opioids, which can lead to dependency.

To participate in the trial, you need to be 45 years or older and scheduled for a total knee replacement. You should be able to read and understand English, and you must be willing to complete some questionnaires and bring your pain medications to the clinic for assessment. If you have been using opioids regularly for more than three months, have fibromyalgia, or are pregnant, you won’t be eligible to join. Participants will receive either the real injection or the sham injection right after their surgery and will be followed up at specific times to discuss their pain levels and medication use. This study is an exciting opportunity to explore new ways to help manage pain effectively and safely after knee surgery.
