ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a method called Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) to see if it can help prevent infections in surgical wounds after a type of surgery called laparotomy, where the abdomen is opened. The trial will involve 70 participants aged between 20 and 70 years, regardless of gender, who will be randomly split into two groups. One group will receive NPWT at the end of their surgery, while the other group will not. Both groups will stay in the hospital for about three days after their surgery and will be given standard antibiotics. They will be monitored for any signs of infection for 30 days after the surgery.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be healthy enough for surgery and not pregnant. They should also be able to follow up as instructed. If someone develops an infection that doesn’t heal with antibiotics, they may need another surgery. The study aims to gather information about how effective NPWT is in reducing surgical site infections, helping doctors improve care for future patients.
