ClinConnect Summary
This small, single-arm study is exploring how well the nerve in the lower jaw (the inferior alveolar nerve) recovers after a guided nerve-lateralization procedure done at the same time as placing dental implants in the lower jaw. Researchers will look at whether any postoperative changes in nerve sensation improve over time and how bothersome they are to patients. About 10 surgical sites (one side of the lower jaw for each participant) will be studied, and the study is for adults aged 30 to 75 with certain types of jawbone loss that make implant placement challenging. All participants will receive the same procedure, and there’s no comparison group.
Participants can expect to have guided surgery under general anesthesia to create space for the nerve and place implants, with some bone graft material prepared from the patient’s own tissue to help healing. After surgery, nerve sensation will be tested at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months to see if numbness or altered feeling develops and how much it matters to the patient. The study aims to tell us whether this nerve-lateralization approach could be a good alternative to short implants and whether the implants stay firmly attached to the bone over time. The trial is currently enrolling by invitation at Tanta University in Egypt, with an estimated completion in 2026.
