ClinConnect Summary
The Mentor Moms+ Study is designed to help pregnant and breastfeeding women who use alcohol, especially those living with or without HIV. The goal of the study is to see if a special program called Mentor Mothers+ can effectively reduce alcohol consumption and improve adherence to HIV treatment among participants. This program involves supportive conversations led by trained mentor mothers from the community, who have personal experience with similar challenges. The study will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, and will include 100 women who are pregnant and have used alcohol in the last two months.
To be eligible for the study, participants need to be at least 16 years old, have a confirmed pregnancy, live within 20 kilometers of the clinic, and be willing to participate. If enrolled, women can expect to receive individual support during their pregnancy and for six months after giving birth. This research will help identify effective ways to support these mothers and their babies, making it an important step toward improving health outcomes in the community.
