ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different ways to monitor the pressure of the cuff on an endotracheal tube in children who are receiving mechanical ventilation in a pediatric intensive care unit. The cuff helps keep the tube in place and prevents air from leaking. Researchers want to compare an automatic method (using a device called IntelliCuff®) with a manual method to see which one keeps the pressure within the safe range of 15-25 cmH₂O more effectively and how each method affects the nurses' workload.
To be eligible for this study, children aged 1 month to 18 years who are intubated with a cuffed endotracheal tube and will need mechanical ventilation for at least 48 hours can participate. However, children with certain conditions, like a tracheostomy or those who have been extubated within 48 hours, will not be included. If your child takes part in this trial, they will receive care as usual, and the study will help determine the best way to monitor cuff pressure to improve care for future patients.
