ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how inflammation affects the ability of hospitalized patients, especially older adults, to maintain their muscle strength while they are in the hospital. The researchers want to understand how inflammation impacts the way our bodies build muscle protein. They will look at patients with different levels of inflammation and test whether a special plant-based nutrition plan can help reduce inflammation in those with high levels. The hope is that by lowering inflammation, patients will be better able to gain muscle strength through exercise.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be hospitalized in the geriatric department at Bispebjerg Hospital for at least 7 days and have a condition called Disease Related Malnutrition. They should also be able to do strength training exercises and understand the study information. Unfortunately, those currently taking anti-inflammatory medications or with certain severe health issues cannot participate. If someone joins the study, they can expect to be part of a program that combines nutrition and exercise, which may help improve their muscle health during their hospital stay.
