ClinConnect Summary

The CORESOM-EPI clinical trial is studying how sleep and practice (rehearsal) help people with epilepsy remember things better. When we learn something new, our brains need time to turn that information into lasting memories. This trial will look at whether sleeping or practicing what you've learned is more effective for memory in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy, which can affect memory due to issues in a part of the brain called the hippocampus. Participants will learn to associate objects with places in two different ways—once with a single practice and once with repeated practice—and then their memory will be tested right away and again after either staying awake for a day or sleeping for a night.

To be eligible for this study, participants must be between 18 and 65 years old and have any type of epilepsy. They also need to be hospitalized for at least four days for a special test called video-EEG monitoring, which records brain activity. During the trial, participants will perform memory tasks under different conditions to see how sleep and practice affect their ability to remember. This study is an important step toward understanding how memory works in people with epilepsy and will help prepare for future research involving more detailed brain measurements.
