ClinConnect Summary
This is an ongoing randomized controlled trial from Selçuk University in Konya, Turkey, looking at whether two different teaching approaches can improve nursing students’ thinking and actions about sustainability. Second-year nursing students will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: a control group that does not receive the extra activities during the study, a simulation group that participates in high‑fidelity simulation exercises for three weeks, or an out‑of‑class educational activities group that does three real-world environmental activities. All participants first complete a common seven‑week theory session, and outcomes are measured about 10 weeks from the start, including sustainability knowledge, attitudes, sustainable behavior, and environmental literacy. Results aren’t available yet.
Eligible participants are current second‑year undergraduate nursing students who are not working in health organizations, not members of environmental groups, and not international/foreign students. The study uses random assignment and some blinding to reduce bias, with data analysis handled by an independent statistician. It’s not tied to FDA-regulated drugs or devices. The trial is currently enrolling by invitation, aiming to enroll about 72 students in total, with completion expected around June 2026. The study is led by Ummuhan Okur, with Selçuk University listed as the sponsor.
