ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Health Literacy in Geriatric Patients," is focused on understanding how well older adults can comprehend health information. Health literacy is important because it helps patients make informed decisions about their health. Unfortunately, many older adults struggle with this due to memory issues or multiple health problems, which can lead to worse health outcomes. In this study, researchers will compare how healthcare providers and caregivers estimate a patient's health literacy with actual measurements taken through a simple questionnaire. They want to see if these estimates match up and understand how this affects patient care.
To participate in the trial, individuals need to be patients at St. Peter's Hospital Geriatric Clinic and willing to take part. If a patient cannot answer the questions, a caregiver can help. Participants will be followed up with a phone call in six months to discuss any health concerns that may have arisen since their visit. This study aims to improve understanding and support for older patients, so they receive the best care possible.
