ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial, called the ABCDEF Bundle to Prevent Delirium for COPD Patients, is investigating a structured approach to care that aims to prevent delirium in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) who are admitted to intensive care units (ICUs). Delirium is a serious condition that can lead to confusion and longer hospital stays, especially in ICU settings. The trial will involve 84 patients with COPD, aged 18 and older, who do not have cognitive diseases like dementia and require at least 24 hours of intensive care monitoring without being on a ventilator.

Participants in this study will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care or the ABCDEF Bundle, which includes various strategies to manage pain, sedation, mobility, and sleep quality. The goal is to see if this structured approach can help reduce the risk of delirium in these patients. This research is important because it may lead to better care practices in the ICU, ultimately improving patient outcomes and raising awareness among healthcare providers about how to support patients with COPD.
