ClinConnect Summary
The PRIZE study is a clinical trial that is exploring a new technique called pre-emptive embolization during a common procedure for treating abdominal aortic aneurysms, known as endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). This study aims to determine whether this technique can help reduce the risk of complications called endoleaks, which happen when blood continues to flow into the aneurysm after treatment. By blocking nearby blood vessels that supply blood to the aneurysm, the researchers hope to improve the success of the procedure and ensure better long-term outcomes for patients.
To participate in the study, individuals must have an abdominal aortic aneurysm that is large enough to require repair and be at high risk for certain types of endoleaks. However, those who do not meet specific criteria for EVAR or have a life expectancy of less than two years are not eligible. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive EVAR with pre-emptive embolization or without it. The study will evaluate whether the aneurysm shrinks over two years and track any related health events over five years. This research is crucial as it could help doctors determine the best treatment approach for patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms, ensuring they receive effective care.
