ClinConnect Summary
The Jockey Club Stand-by-U Caregivers Community Support Project is a study designed to help caregivers who take care of older adults. The main goal is to see if providing in-home help, called respite services, can reduce stress and improve the mental health of caregivers. Eligible participants include individuals aged 18 and over who care for at least one older adult at home for at least six hours each week. They must be able to communicate in Cantonese, Mandarin, or English. Caregivers with different levels of need will be identified using a simple screening tool, and those with mild to moderate needs will be invited to participate.
Once enrolled, caregivers will receive either 12 or 36 hours of in-home support from trained volunteers, allowing them some much-needed time to rest and recharge. The study will measure changes in the caregivers' mental wellbeing before and after the support, as well as at 3, 6, and 12 months afterward. There will also be a comparison group that does not receive any respite services to better understand the impact of this support. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and all caregivers are welcome to apply!
